On January 20, 2017, the artist Shia LaBeouf launched his “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” project. The artist encourages viewers to repeat the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish. The mantra is said to act as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.

On January 25, 2017, the artist Thomas Arthur Schaefer launched his “SHIA WILL NOT DIVIDE US” project—a mirror of the other. This artist encourages viewers to repeat this opposing phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish. This mantra carries with it the same action as the other, but with an added critical message. A message designed to wake people up from this Hollywood star's limited stream of consciousness. LaBeouf's work at its core aims to generate and perpetuate this division. In that sense, he is the divider. Schaefer encourages individuals to think and speak for themselves, no matter their political beliefs. United we stand, divided we fall.
