The World Is So Small And Stupid

I'm out of town on business right now... and I've had the damn'dest time finding a free wifi signal. The place I'm staying has dial-up which is a joke... not to mention my laptop doesn't have a phone jack... I live in the year 2007 unlike some folks. McDonalds charges you $3 for limted blocks of 2hour periods that expire when they say. Starbucks just charges way too much... but I finally stumbled upon a small local coffee shop that just served me a killer quad-latte and has free wifi... so I'll be back here in the morning for sure. Can't conduct business very well when there is no damned internet around.

In Need Of A Disfunctional Lover

Put the final coat on an experimental piece I'm working on. It's really just a test for 3 larger panels along the same line. Shredded tabloids and shredded b/w newsprint. The only thing I'll probably do different when I do the larger ones is paint the base board white before I begin to apply the thousands of strips that are going to be needed for the works. I knew there would be some transparent bleeding with the newsprint when I did it, but I'd like the base to be white if there is going to be bleeding v. the tan wood color it has showing through now. This small one has over 4,000 strips... so the big ones will probably be in the 10,000 range each. They definitly take some time to do as each strip is applied by hand... but there is no other way to go about it really. But they will stay as is... no other changes once they reach this stage. They are meant to act as large vibrating abstract color fields.

Also finished the based structure for some large 8ft long panel pieces along the same lines as the above works. These were done before the other though. I'm going to be painting some abstracted portraits of celebrities on each panel... getting back to my photorealist oil painting roots again. Haven't done that type of work seriously for a few years now, but I think it's the one elemnt most everything I'm attempting lately is missing. Just bored with everything I've been working on... nothing is good enough it seems. I originally was going to keep it as one whole work, with no overpaintings, with all the panels connected. As things go I've changed my mind and am going to break it into 7 works instead. Not totally set on my celeb pics, but it's probably going to be all my favorite snotty bitches... Hilton, Lohan, Spears, Richie, Aguilera, Simpson, & Barton... but the list is bound to change I'm sure. The works are horizontal though... not vert. like in the picture. The portraits will be done twice on each work. Once on the left and then mirrored on the right... each looking toward the center of the work... or each other. Going for that two-faced celebrity ideal. Not sure as of yet, but I may be including a centered object, word, or autograph as well in the composition.

Fried On Current Issues And Topical Treatments

Back to the business at hand finally...
Began work again on my set of 10 Ham/Avacado paintings. Mounted the right painted/collaged portions to the base frames last night. This after I had painted them earlier with a mint green acrylic and then stained a truer green with a mixture of oil paint and a drying linseed oil.

I'm going to let the newly afixed portions set for a few days. Then, I'll add the over drawing outlines to each work and then it's off to the races. Need to find myself a nice spiral cut ham that isn't to large, but has thick enough slices that will serve my needs. Next, I'll need 10 ripe avacados so I can extract 1 large slice from the center of each and afix those to the base structure as well. Then the 10 pieces will be left outside in the sun & elements for a few weeks and I'll let nature take hold. Should be interesting.

Final steps include adding circuit boards, wires, lights and the growth vessels on the right side of the works.
